Ned Hill with Tina Simpson and Greg McGarvey with Evan Scheerer
August 4, 2019 @ 7:30 pm
Preservation New Jersey welcomes Nashville’s Ned Hill, backed by violinist Tina Simpson, showcasing his well-crafted Americana working class songs in his first 1867 Sanctuary appearance. Opening the show will be local favorites, Greg McGarvey and Evan Scheerer.
Ned Hill is an Americana / folk artist from the small town of Horse Cave, KY. Formerly the leader of the Nashville alt-punk band, Ned Van Go, he released his first solo album, Six Feet Above Ground in March of 2018 and has been touring in support of this release throughout the southern tier states from FL to NM and from Dallas up to Detroit. His skilled writing and authenticity is well received in the Northeast market.
“This is the epitome of what we like about Americana – great songs filled with rich, gritty images of streets and railroads, love lost and found – all backed by edgy country arrangements that owe as much to old school rock n’ roll as classic country.”
Jim Hynes-Country Standard Time
“The truth is in the details and this puppy is detailed for the length of the album. Give it a chance. If you stick with it, you’re going to understand. Because this ain’t quite country… and it’s damn good.”
Frank Gutch Jr-No Depression Magazine
“Hill’s got some serious songwriting chops, without getting too fancy. He’s not trying to be Bob Dylan or overly clever, but he regularly turns an honest phrase that hits home.
Suzanne Cadgene-Elmore Magazine
Greg McGarvey (www.gregmcgarvey.net) first touched his grandfather’s Gibson guitar at the age of three and has rarely been seen without a guitar since. His father Scott claims he learned to read earlier than expected in order to more easily find songs on Everly Brothers records. By the time six-year-old Greg saw The Everlys play a gig at Valley Forge Music Fair, he knew what he wanted to do with his life.
A veteran of multiple rock & roll bands and folk groups in the Greater Philadelphia and New York areas, Greg McGarvey has become one of the most vibrant, emotional, and often startlingly funny songwriters on the music scene today. Equally at ease in a rock club or in a hushed theater, Greg always delivers performances that are passionate, honest, and – given his love of unplanned, spontaneous moments – unique.
