Marc Kaye’s Songwriter’s Showcase
February 15, 2020 @ 8:00 pm
Marc Kaye’s Songwriter’s Showcase returns to the 1867 Sanctuary with Two of a Kind’s David and Jenny Heitler-Klevens, Jessica Graae and Marc Kaye!
Two of a Kind (www.Twoofakind.com) is the husband-wife duo of David & Jenny Heitler-Klevans. Best known for their music for children and families, David & Jenny bring a similarly eclectic repertoire and engaging manner to “grown-up” audiences. Their harmonies blend seamlessly, with David’s dynamic guitar work and Jenny’s varied use of percussion resulting in a compelling performance. Picking songs that are both personal and political, they bring their audiences humor and thoughtful contemplation. David & Jenny do their own well-crafted songs as well as songs by the likes of Greg Brown, Melanie DeMore, Dido, John Prine, Peggy Seeger and Tom Waits. In 2018, they released Lead With Love and has shared the stage with artists such as Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul & Mary, Charlie King, Pat Humphries, and Kim & Reggie Harris.
Jessica Graae (www.Jessicagraae.com) blends her folk-rock style and classical training to create haunting, soulful songs. Her “evocative, lush, and exquisite” vocals are accompanied by “elegant and impressive guitar playing”. Voted WSTW’s “Best Female Solo Artist” in the 10th Annual Hometown Heroes Homey Awards, Jessica celebrated the release of her second album “Sea Dream” with a release show at World Café Live in Philadelphia. She has performed live on Joltin’ Joe’s Radio Nowhere, Gene Shay’s Folk Show (WXPN), Graffiti Radio, WCHE’s SoundStage and WSTW’s Hometown Heroes. She has played the Haverford Music Festival, Gettysburg Rocks, Dewey Beach, Bordentown, Launch, Elm City and Ladybug Festivals. Jessica is a 2013 Philadelphia Folk Factory contest winner and a finalist in the 2012 and 2014 Delmarva Folk Hero contests. She is a featured act at the 2017 Delmarva Folk Festival and is currently recording her third studio album, to be released late summer 2017.
Marc Kaye (https://soundcloud.com/marc-kaye/sets) combines rhythmic base lines with melodies that are both catchy and sanguine simultaneously. A pianist since age 7 and songwriter since age 13, Marc uses his songs to tell stories and express emotions, hopes and fears that are at once common in everyday artistry and informed by personal experience. Marc has been performing between NY and Delaware at a host of intimate venues where his personal style of writing is able to create and leverage a more intimate environment. He is currently working on recording a collection “On the Side”.
The 1867 Sanctuary Arts and Culture Center is wheelchair-accessible through a wheelchair ramp through the gate on the left side of the building. All parking is across the street in the Ewing Presbyterian Church lots, including an inner ring across the street for disabled parking. Passengers may be dropped off at the curb directly in front of the main entrance; please use your hazard flashers when stopped there. Concert parking is recommended in the north lot (by the field closest to I-295). For your safety, please cross at the marked crosswalk and press the yellow button to activate flashers.
