Liebovar, or The Little Blind Girl
April 27, 2022 @ 7:30 pm
Liebovar, or The Little Blind Girl tells the story of the Theresienstadt concentration camp, a grim prison for thousands of Jewish artists, writers, singers, dancers, composers and musicians. But when the prisoners learn they’ll soon be sent to die in the gas chambers of Auschwitz, they decide to fight back with their only weapon – opera! They write an opera they hope the Nazis will like so much that they’ll spare the cast and orchestra.
And they find an unlikely lead – a little blind girl with a beautiful voice and unflinching faith in the Almighty. And a tale unfolds of war and death, love and treachery, and the power of human creativity to triumph over human brutality.
In a special event for Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, Boheme Opera NJ will present Misha Dutka’s world-premiere opera in a concert version on April 27th at 7:30 PM, in the 1867 Sanctuary, located at 101 Scotch Road, Ewing Township, NJ 08628.
Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided.
Don’t miss this one chance to hear a new work in its only scheduled performance!
