Ewing Presbyterian Church Sunday Morning Worship Service and Christmas Cantata
December 24, 2017 @ 9:30 am
The 4th Sunday of Advent is December 24th. The Sunday morning Ewing Presbyterian Church worship service in the 1867 Sanctuary will include the cantata Missa Carolae, sung by the Sanctuary Choir and featuring the children and youth choirs as well under the direction of Carol Houghton.
This piece, composed by the contemporary British composer James Whitbourn, uses an inventive trick of pairing the traditional text of the Latin mass with familiar Christmas carol melodies. Though not literally meant for dancing, the work does invoke a dance-like spirit, which works well with the medieval/renaissance style of the particular carols. This is a fun piece for the choir to sing, and the listener is drawn into the text of the mass in a new way, through Whitbourn’s skillful arrangements of traditional tunes.
Richard Spotts, a Bucks County native and Westminster Choir College graduate, will accompany the choir on the organ at the 1867 Sanctuary.
A free will donation for the Ewing Presbyterian Church is invited.
