Emily Kim

Emily Kim

Preservation New Jersey is pleased to welcome singer-songwriter Emily Kim for her first full concert in the 1867 Sanctuary. Several months ago, Emily performed an impressive short set with John Kizzie at our Open Mic night, prompting an immediate invitation to perform a more extensive show. This is our opportunity to hear this very talented high school performer before she leaves for college, as she sings original songs and her interpretations of covers of songs about growth, relationships and loss.

Emily Kim has been singing and playing the guitar since age eleven. Inspired by artists Sara Bareilles and Of Monsters and Men, Emily started to write her original music as a means of expressing herself. In 2015 and 2017, Emily had the opportunity to perform her music at the NJPAC and Rutger’s Nicholas Music Center after being named a finalist of New Jersey’s Shout Down Drugs Songwriting competition. This experience then led her to perform at the Drug Enforcement Agency’s drug awareness art gallery in Newark.

Her is her set list of songs and stories:

  • Summer Skies – Emily Kim, 2011
  • Sinking – Emily Kim, 2015
  • Mess – Emily Kim, 2015
  • Skinny Love – Bon Iver
  • Not So Sure – Emily Kim, 2016
  • Birthday Cake Ice Cream – Emily Kim, 2017

  • All I Want – Kodaline
  • I Wish I Didn’t Care – Emily Kim, 2018
  • Walking On Water – Emily Kim, 2018
  • Shake It Out – Florence and the Machine
  • Trust – Emily Kim, 2018
  • Cherry Wine – Hozier
  • Leaky Faucet Eyes – Emily Kim, 2018

Aside from performing at local open mics and district talent shows, Emily has also gained performance experience by singing in her high school’s choir and a cappella groups. These activities taught Emily how to work within a team, also aiding in boosting her confidence during the last four years.

Next year, Emily will be pursuing a Chemistry degree at the Oxford College of Emory University. Despite this drastic change, Emily is sure that her passion for music will follow her there.
