Rick Fiori Quartet
January 10 @ 8:00 pm
Preservation New Jersey and the New Jersey Jazz Society are pleased to welcome the Rick Fiori Quartet to the 1867 Sanctuary. The Rick Fiori Quartet is a collective of local jazz musicians led by drummer Rick Fiori, performing expert renditions of favorite jazz staples. The other members of the quartet for this concert are to be announced.
Noted New York Metropolitan Area drummer, bandleader, and teacher Rick Fiori has performed with such Jazz Luminaries as Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon, and John Stubblefield, and studied under drumming great Elvin Jones.
Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, he first studied with Hy Frank, and then Tony DiNicola. After high school he hit the road – at first with an organ trio that featured a comic, and later with a revival of the Tommy Dorsey band. More work followed that kept him in Manhattan for nearly a dozen years. While in New York, he took lessons for a time from Elvin Jones. “What an experience that was. He could teach you enough in five minutes to last you a week.”
Since returning to New Jersey, the Rick Fiori Trio/Quartet/Quintet has continued to entertain audiences with the toe-tapping rhythm and blues of Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and Count Basie, as well as an array of tunes from the 50’s and 60’s era repertoire of Miles Davis, Art Blakey and Sonny Rollins.
Jazz at the 1867 Sanctuary and throughout the Trenton/Princeton area is featured on trenton.jazznearyou.com. Download their app for iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire!
