Mike Herz and Carolann Solebello
October 28 @ 8:00 pm
Preservation New Jersey is pleased to welcome Singer-Songwriters Mike Herz back with Carolann Solebello in her first appearance in the wonderful acoustics of the 1867 Sanctuary Arts and Culture Center.
With an uncanny ability to turn a phrase and pen lyrics with rich resonance, Mike Herz writes and performs in a style that is all his own. An aspiring poet long before picking up a guitar, Herz quickly came to the realization that his words stood a better chance of entering more ears if put to a tune. Flash forward years and many miles later and Mike feels most comfortable on stage in front of complete strangers. Music has brought him across this great nation and into spellbound evenings in some of the best listening rooms around. His debut album Overgrown was released in 2013, duo album (with Emily Barnes) Closer to Home in 2015 and his follow up solo album, The Acrobat was released in January 2017. Named as Emerging Artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in 2016, Mike was recently selected to be a finalist in the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival Songwriter Showcase in Lyons, CO in August 2017.
breathes new life into folk music.
Overgrown is a triumph of the lyric-driven, acoustic-based, and highly personal music form. At one time it would have been labeled Folk Music, music by and about regular folks like us. But perhaps we should call it Life Music. Mike Herz is singing about his life, and about our lives.
Mike writes songs with layers of depth.
Mike, your performance yesterday was remarkable. This was the first time I have seen and heard you play but it will not be the last. You have an amazing gift and you are a great inspiration.

Carolann Solebello (www.CarolannSolebello.com) is a performing songwriter born and bred in New York City. Best known to folk audiences as a founding member of Americana trio Red Molly, she now tours both as a solo act and with modern folk quartet No Fuss and Feathers. Carolann has released four solo CDs and has won songwriting awards at Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival (MD), Solarfest (VT), and Musicians on a Mission (NJ).
With the release of Threshold, it seems Solebello has found her own voice in a manner that is in turn both winsome and full of frolic, but there is also a maturity in the writing that speaks to adult matters. In brief, we have here an artist who has found herself by going it alone, and thus has become complete; and completely one with her work. It is a joy to hear. ~ Michael Jaworek, The Birchmere, Alexandria VA
