Preservation New Jersey welcomes three singer-songwriters from Lambertville, New Jersey, Carol Heffler (vocals, piano), Carol Lyman (vocals, guitar), and Mindi Turin (vocals, guitar) to the wonderful acoustics of the 1867 Sanctuary! The concert will feature eclectic styles drawing on roots/folk, jazz, and blues.
“Life is a shipwreck”, said Voltaire, “but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats.” Voltaire had it right. Songs and singing open the heart and raise the spirit in times of joy and times of hardship.
You are invited to share an evening with three singer-songwriters, each with her own style, who write from their own experience as women, mothers, friends and lovers.
Carol Heffler, on piano, blends soft jazz and bossa nova to create expressive and inspirational music with her lyrics and melodies. Her soothing voice has been described as “a sophisticated Karen Carpenter”. Carol Lyman, on guitar, writes warm, literate songs that both sing and speak to us. Her vocals tell as much as sing her stories of simple truths, spare beauty, and gentle honesty. Mindi Turin, also on guitar, whose style is informed by American jazz and blues standards, sings stories with humor and pathos of love sought, lost, and found.
Please come sail with us.
Carol Heffler is a singer, pianist and songwriter. Her two CDs Pull of the Moon and exactly are available on ITunes and CD Baby. “Heffler’s voice is a delight of mellow control and expression warm with vibrato, perfectly suited to her style.” – Heartsong Review. “She basically glides through each number with ease. Heffler’s vocal range is good and she knows just how much to stretch without breaking” – Les Reynolds, Indie-Music.com. She received the award for Best Female Jazz Vocalist, International Association of Jazz Educators.
Carol Lyman’s genre is roots/folk.
Tapping into her personal life experience and professional experience as a psychologist, Mindi Turin writes and covers songs of love sought, lost, and found, as well as the daily trials and tribulations of being human. Her guitar playing is generally accompaniment and instrumental finger style, and reflects her love of American Jazz and Blues standards. Her vocals are rich, haunting, and sometimes sardonic.
Mindi has performed in New Jersey, upstate New York, and New Hampshire and has been invited to perform her original, Black Coffee for Me, with Frank Vignola, Guitar Player Extraordinaire and his trio.
