Gordon Thomas Ward, “Providence”

October 19 @ 8:00 pm

Providence
Providence

Preservation New Jersey is pleased to welcome singer-songwriter, author, presenter, and storyteller Gordon Thomas Ward back to the 1867 Sanctuary, a perfect venue for his music! This will be the first public album release concert, featuring songs from his new album, Providence, and other songs and stories.

Dubbed New Jersey’s Troubadour, as a solo, touring singer-songwriter, Gordon Thomas Ward paints musical portraits that plumb the depths of our emotions and bring the past to life while pointing to a hope-filled future. His listeners are given passports to travel mystical and historical roads through lush, sonic landscapes filled with ghosts, coffee shop waitresses, and railroad engineers. Employing his experience as a teacher, writer, paranormal investigator, storyteller, group facilitator, and radio host, it’s no wonder that his fans often comment on Gordon’s knack for establishing an endearing relationship with them through his extraordinary and captivating words and music. At the end of his performances, audiences leave inspired!

His song stylings have been influenced by the works of Dan Fogelberg, Neil Young, and Jackson Browne, some of the artists Gordon often covers in his sets, yet Gordon’s songs occupy a space all their own and linger in the mind and memory like cherished dreams. Gordon utilizes several instruments in his shows, which illustrate his lyric messages with a variety of tonal colors. His songs have led him to work with notable musicians such as Eric Troyer (The Orchestra, John Lennon, Billy Joel), Mik Kaminski (The Electric Light Orchestra), William J. Hall (Frostwater and Pete Seeger), and Carolann Solebello (Red Molly and No Fuss and Feathers), share the stage with Natalie Merchant and Christine Lavin, and open for The Boxcar Lilies and noted singer-songwriter Bill Staines.

When he’s not composing songs and penning lyrics, Gordon has written prose and is the author of four published books: Life on the Shoulder, A Bit of Earth, Ghosts of Central Jersey, and Tracing Infinity. He writes a regular column for The Black River Journal magazine and hosts a podcast called An Artist’s View. Gordon also lectures on several topics, and as an artist interested in social issues, he produced and performed in a Concert Across America to End Gun Violence in September 2016.
