Austin MacRae, Mike Herz, and John Sonntag

April 12 @ 8:00 pm

Preservation New Jersey is pleased to present an Americana singer-songwriter showcase featuring Austin MacRae, Mike Herz, and John Sonntag in a night of acoustic originals in the wonderful acoustics of the 1867 Sanctuary.

Austin MacRae is a singer/songwriter from Ithaca, NY, whose music is known for its lyrical and vocal intensity. With a sensitive finger-picking style, MacRae crafts songs rich in wordplay and story. He has performed at venues such as Club Passim, Kerrville Folk Festival (New Folk Finalist), Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (Emerging Artist), Turtle Hill Folk Festival (New Voices Showcase), Ithaca Festival, Oswego Music Hall, Homer Center for the Arts, Bill Knowlton’s Bluegrass Ramble Picnic and many other venues. His debut album, Bats in the Attic, won a Syracuse Area Music Award (SAMMY) for Best Folk Recording of 2015. His second album, Keeper, won a SAMMY for Best Americana in 2018. He was recently a Semi-formal Showcase Artist at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) in Stamford, CT, as well as being selected for the the Suzi Wollenberg DJ Showcase. His music has also been featured on a variety of radio stations and shows, including the Sundilla Radio Hour, hosted by Kelly Walker. In 2017 MacRae was one of three winners of the South Florida Folk Festival’s singer/songwriter competition in Ft. Lauderdale.

With an uncanny ability to turn a phrase and pen lyrics that rattle around in your head, Mike Herz writes and performs in a style that is all his own. An aspiring poet long before picking up a guitar, Herz quickly came to the realization that his words could enter more ears if put to a tune. Flash forward years and many miles later and Mike feels most comfortable on stage in front of complete strangers. Music has brought him across this great nation and into spellbound evenings in some of the best listening rooms and festivals around, including selctions as an Emerging Artist at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and a Showcase Finalist at the Rocky Mtn. Folks Festival. His most recent album “Live in NYC” was released on April 20th, 2018 and a new studio album will be released Spring 2019.

Hard travels and tender truths touch the stories John Sonntag has seen – and to see him sing them is to feel as if he’s telling yours. The award winning, golden-voiced, multitalented singer-songwriter puts every crowd at ease and on their feet with his compelling stories of hopeful starts, dead ends and second chances.
