American Folk Jazz with Monika Ryan and the Alex Otey Trio

Preservation New Jersey and the New Jersey Jazz Society welcome jazz singer Monika Ryan and the Alex Otey Trio back to the 1867 Sanctuary for another evening of American Folk Jazz.
American Folk Jazz is a special blend of music representing the US experience through Hymns, Folk, Early Broadway and American Standards. Derivation of Gospel and Blues found their way into Folk, Theater and Popular repertoire. This program highlights and unleashes the roots of Jazz that underpin the music of America which is enjoyed world-wide today!
Performing will be Monika Ryan (Vocal), Alex Otey (Piano/Vocal), Chris Clark (Bass), Darrel Soltesz (Drums), and Howard Husik (Congas).
Monika Ryan is an acclaimed versatile vocalist, recording artist and touring musician, with 10 published albums. Monika sings from her heart, music steeped in Jazz with a unique and sultry style of her own. Alex Otey is an award-winning pianist, singer, trumpeter and composer/arranger who has performed with a number of prominent jazz musicians and recorded with Grover Washington Jr and Richie Cole. He’s a participant on a GRAMMY® Winning and on two GRAMMY® Nominated projects as a contributing artist, producer and arranger. He performs regularly as a Jazz Piano-Vocalist and hosts The Trenton Jazz Show aired on WWFM JazzOn2 89.1 HD2. www.AlexOtey.com
Chris Clark teaches double bass at The College of New Jersey, the Lawrenceville School, and Arcadia University, and previously taught at Rider University and the University of North Texas. He holds performance degrees from the University of North Texas and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Chris performs jazz, musical theater productions, cabaret shows in New York City, and has recorded on several albums including GRAMMY® Nominated Fitness Rock & Roll CD in 2012. In 2016, he contributed to the short film “Home,” starring New York cabaret artist Charles Baran, a film which was been selected for the Winter Film Awards in New York City. www.ChrisClarkBass.com
Darrell “Double D” Soltesz is a world class drummer, singer, recording/session musician, music consultant who has performed with many prominent jazz/rock/country musicians including Richie Cole, Artimus Pyle (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Keith Carlock (Steely Dan), The Charlie Daniels Band, Johnny Cash and many more Grammy® award winning artists. He also performs with entertainer David Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience to SOLD OUT shows and has appeared at concert/theater venues nationwide including The Keswick Theater, World Café Live, The Sellersville Theater and Atlantic City/Las Vegas Casinos.
Howard “Howie” Husik is a dynamic percussionist who has performed on a number of projects. Providing strong rhythm foundation to a variety of genres such as Rock, Jazz, Americana/Country and Blues, be it on bongos, congas or full a trap set, some groups he’s performed with include: NYTROUS, The Philly Accent, The Generations Project, Edon Gunn, Eli T. Hawk and Howie And the Sunglasses.

Tickets can be purchased online or reserved at the box office for payment by cash, check or credit card by calling 609-392-6409 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door as space allows.
For online purchases, PLEASE PRINT AND KEEP YOUR RECEIPT emailed from PayPal. You will not be mailed tickets. While our notification from PayPal is usually sufficient, the receipt will provide your proof of purchase, particularly for same-day purchases.
**GROUP RATES (10 or more people). Group rates apply only to advance online sales and must be purchased in quantities of 10 or more within a single purchase. Group rate tickets cannot be purchased at the box office prior to the concert.
