Preservation New Jersey is pleased to present Peggy Lee Brown in concert with pianist Jaclyn Duncan. The program will feature songs by Lerner & Lowe, Cole Porter, Rogers & Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, Sammy Cahn, and Heyman & Young, as well as several beloved spirituals.
Peggy Lee Brown is a vocalist with a repertoire that includes Broadway, opera, jazz, and spirituals. She has performed in the United States and Europe.
New York Concert Review wrote this review after Ms. Brown’s performance at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. “...After intermission, Ms. Brown began with Gordon and Warren's The More I See You from the 1945 movie Diamond Horseshoe. She continued with Burke and Garner's equally famous Misty and scored high marks on both tunes for her clear words and warm, gentle sound…Gospel tunes, the clear domain of Ms. Brown ended the recital... The final one, All Night, All Day was a duet arrangement by the two singers. Ms. Brown and Molinari-Hagner ‘hit it out of the park.’ They garnered an instant...standing ovation from their audience and fans.”
Referring to her rendition of Gershwin’s Summertime from Porgy and Bess, New York Concert Review wrote, “Even before the song’s final notes, the audience began to applaud vigorously once more and rose to give the artists another ovation.”
“The highlight of these works was Rossini’s Una voce poco fà from The Barber of Seville. Ms. Brown navigated this challenging terrain admirably, executing impressive leaps, often to the upper end of her range. These high notes, which one could easily mar with inaccurate pitch or harsh timbral qualities, bloomed beautifully from Ms. Brown’s mouth. Moreover, she not only sang impressively, but also exhibited an endearing coquettish persona as she did so. By the end of this piece, Ms. Brown and Ms. Cheadle had completely won over the audience.” New York Concert Review.
Ms. Brown is a graduate of The College of New Jersey (B.S.) and Thomas Edison State College (M.A.).
