Folk/Roots Music Series:
Jameson Sisters Advent Concert
Sunday, December 4, 2016, 3:00 pm
at the 1867 Sanctuary at Ewing
Preservation New Jersey is pleased to present the Jameson Sisters for an Advent Christmas Carols program of light lilting Irish music with laughter.
This lively duo combines harp, mandolin, and guitar with soaring vocals. Ellen Tepper developed an interest in early harp music when growing up in Vienna, Austria. Terry Kane was immersed in her family's Irish culture, dancing, playing and singing. Terry has studied Gaelic for 15 years. This duo plays many styles of Celtic music from ancient tunes on the Irish wire-strung harp or Gaelic sean nós songs to lively jigs and reels on the Celtic harp or contemporary Irish songs.
Their family-friendly, educational and enjoyable program will feature many old carols interspersed with baroque music. They will also perform a selection of ancient Irish carols they have collected and arranged for harp and voice.
Though not in this order, the audience can expect to hear
The Westminster Carol (Angels we have heard)
Lo How a Rose
The Coventry carol
In the Bleak Midwinter
Still Still Still
The Carol of the Bells
and many "standards" as well as 17th and 18th century Irish Carols from County Wexford
and little bits of Bach, Pachelbel and Vivaldi
There will be little talks on the history and provenance of the carols and probably a few puns...
Ellen Tepper has a performance degree in Harp. She grew up in Vienna, Austria and began taking harp lessons when she was 8 yrs. old. She has performed with many ensembles and now is a solo performer and harp teacher. She loves history and weaves historical information about the harp and songs throughout her performances. These stories are never told without a good laugh thrown in since Ellen is never at a loss for humour. Recently she joined Terry Kane in a dynamic collaboration that has lifted both performers to new heights.
Terry Kane has a masters degree in music education from Crane School of Music. She has been singing and performing Irish music from childhood and has studied the Irish (Gaelic) language and sean nós singing in Ireland. Her interest in Italian music started with her love of Vivaldi mandolin music as a child and then expanded into Italian opera while she was studying music in college.
This duo regularly performs at weddings, festivals, pubs, corporate events and private parties.
